William Powell Tuck

William Powell Tuck has served as both a parish pastor and a seminary professor. Bill, a native of Virginia, is a graduate of Bluefield College and the University of Richmond, Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and received his Th.D. degree from the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He has served Baptist congregations as Pastor and Interim Pastor in Virginia, Louisiana, Kentucky, and North Carolina, and was an adjunct professor at Virginia Intermont College, the University of North Carolina at Pembroke and at the Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond, VA. He was also Professor of Preaching at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY.

He was awarded the Parish Pastor of the Year award by the Academy of Parish Clergy in 1997 and received an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from the University of Richmond in 1977.The Boys & Girl’s Club of America presented him The MEDALLION AWARD in 1999. In October of 2016 he received the Wayne Oates Award from the Oates Institute.

He is the author or editor of more than forty books, including The Rebirth of the Church, Conversations with My Grandchildren, The Difficult Sayings of Jesus, Markers Along the Way, Star Thrower: A Pastor’s Handbook, Modern Shapers of Baptist Thought in America, The Journey to the Undiscovered Country: What’s Beyond Death?; Our Baptist Tradition; Holidays, Holy Days & Special Days, and The Church Under the Cross, and is the author of more than 200 sermons and articles. He is married to Emily Campbell and is the father of two children and five grandchildren. He presently lives in Richmond, VA.
